Submissions? Send ‘em if you’ve got em!

Creginald, here.

As with the first two posts, I am just “getting my feet wet” with this post.

But I wanted to add another “thought” or note for the record: My archives are incomplete!

This is to say that what I have in my collection of 1990s era air checks is about ten audio cassettes (of various quality) along with some VHS cassettes.

With the audiotapes, there are typically anywhere from thirty minute to ninety minute segments of “Chumps” broadcasts.  With VHS it is audio-only of course, but there are and were some longer segments of the program (typically one to three hours, with one or two complete shows) recorded.

BUT!  The show ran for three years, and so I am missing quite a bit of the broadcasts and air checks.

And that’s (potentially) where you come in.

I want open this blog and the Archive to submissions from members of the original audience, should there actually happen to BE any that have stumbled blindly into the intersectional nature of the blog/social media/Archive posts.

Like I said: So much of this is new to me, and between my tablet p.c., mobile telephone, and home computer I have a LOT to learn.

So!  If you should have any printed materials, anecdotes, or even air checks, let me know!

  1. I've got dozens of tapes of the show. One of the regular listeners was a guy who, I believe (based on some of what's on the tapes he gave me), answered the phones for the FBI. He recorded the show week after week, and when his shift got changed so that he couldn't anymore, he met with me and gave me a big box of tapes. I don't know how to get them to you without just sending them through the mail, which I don't think I could risk. Maybe a few at a time. I'd digitize them myself, but I'm currently a full time college student, parent of two, husband, dog owner, landlord, and homeowner with a job, so I don't see myself having time for such a project any time soon.

Before I started school I was considering a blog myself entitled "Middle-aged, White, Suburban Dad," which would be an antithesis to Nation of Chumps. Now I don't have time for that either.

    1. My favorite was when I called WCCO 830 and then connected Kovacs on KFAI . Kovacs started talking to the 'CCO about the religious grifter Benny Hind(sp?). There was an am station talking to an fm station with lots of static and feedback. Kovacs hung up, the 'CCO guy was perplexd, then I cued up Negativlands Jamcon up. So CCO listeners heard about 10 seconds of "Jam,Jam,Jam,Jam".....I believe that recording was among the volumes I gave Jason in '94.

  2. This is a very interesting development.

Could there be a connection to the intersectionality in the underground music scene?

    1. I have a source if you would like to try digitizing. They would need a few more details. Not sure as to the cost, but I would donate to the cause.
